Our Pool Construction Process

Building a custom pool is an exciting journey that transforms your backyard into a personal oasis. Understanding the pool construction process can help you anticipate what to expect and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, we will conduct a site analysis and gain an understanding of your vision.

Layout & Design

We will collab with you and create a detailed 3D rendering to visualize the final look of your new pool and its integration with your outdoor space.

Permitting

After the design, layout and features are chosen and approved, Cabana Pools of Southwest Florida handles the permitting for you. Your paperwork is submitted to the county office. It is the responsibility of the homeowner to submit any necessary documents to the HOA for approval.

If your yard has unusual soil or grading conditions or if there is a septic tank system, the building department (or the health department) may require an on-site inspection before a permit is issued.  Once the paper permit(s) is issued, it will be posted in a visible location in your backyard and must remain there for the duration of your pool's construction.

Excavation & Sod Removal

Before any digging starts, you will be asked to review the pool layout, its location and elevation within your yard, and the location of the pool equipment.

Excavation generally takes one day. Typically, our crews will remove the dirt on the day of excavation, leaving a portion for backfill to help prepare the area for deck installation.

If you would like the soil for landscaping or other projects, some can usually be set aside for you. This needs to be arranged in advanced and in writing, prior to excavation. When excavation is complete, forms made of flexible wood or fiberboard will be installed. Forms will serve as guides for concrete application, and they will be precisely positioned at a predetermined grade to allow for adequate drainage. To maintain the integrity of your pool shape, it is critical that they be accurate, so do not move or adjust the frms in any way. I they should become dislodged, notify us immediately so we can reset them.

Steel, Plumbing & Power

The steel will be the next to arrive. It is used for reinforcing and supporting the pool shell. Our team will carefully lay a network of heavy duty rods throughout the entire contour of the pool. This steel cage will provide superior reinforcement for your concrete pool shell.

The plumbing work is next in line. Depending on the options on your pool, lines will be installed for equipment and features, such as spas and water features. The plumbing team will run tests on the plumbing connections before installing the filtration equipment, purification systems to ensure sparkling, swim-ready water; and your pool's gas heater or electric heat pump.

After the plumbing is installed, your pool is connected to the power source for your pool's pump, lighting, and heat pump.  It is important that you don't turn on any of the equipment that has been wired or installed. Doing so at this point can create problems or irreversible equipment damage. Wait until the pool is complete and a start up specialist arrives to activate the systems.

Concrete

The concrete phase of your pool construction is next! The concrete phase will bring your pool structure to life.

Your new pool shell will dry from the inside out and it's important that it sets properly. Moisture is essential for curing. This will mean regularly wetting down the concrete twice daily with a garden hose for 7-10 days. Never step or walk inside the pool until the concrete is fully set and don't worry about any water that may gather at the bottom of the pool. Our crews will pump it out before the pool is plastered.

Tile & Coping

During the tile and coping phase, precise installation is crucial. First, the tiles are meticulously applied around the interior border of your pool to create a picture frame along the waterline. Tile may be added to the steps and walls as visual accents as well, and these embellishments are sometimes added immediately before the pool is plastered. This step brings your preselected design and the look of your pool to life! Once the tiles are in place, the coping is securely installed around the perimeter, providing a smooth, finished border.

If you have any special masonry or rockwork on your pool, such as waterfalls or accent boulders, this work will typically be performed dring or around this stage of construction.

Be sure to finalize your tile selection on schedule. Some tile designs are special order and we want to avoid any delays as much as you do!

Deck & Fencing Options

We offer a variety of decking options to suit your needs and preferences. Be sure to discuss these options with your design consultant, who can provide detailed information about the materials available. They will guide you through the pros and cons of each option, helping you make an informed decision. Whether you prioritize durability, aesthetic appeal, maintenance requirements, or budget considerations, our team is here to assist you.

As a safety feature, a pool fence, screen room or other enclosure is required. This requirement must be met before final inspection can be scheduled for your pool! We will let you know in advance of any local codes and review the options with you. If you already have a fence or other barrier that fulfills the requirements, then you are all set!

Plaster

Plaster is the final stage of construction. Our plastering crew will finish your pool shell, giving it a sleek, uniform appearance while providing a waterproof coating.

As soon as the interior application is completed, our crew will start filling your pool with water so the material can properly cure. Depending on the size of your pool, this will typically take 1-2 days. It is absolutely critical to add water without ever turning it off until your pool is completely filled. Interrupting the water flow can cause a line of demarcation along the stop point in the freshly applied interior surface.

Start Up & Enjoy!

Your Cabana Pools start up specialist will arrive to activate the pump, check the pipes, filter, lighting system, any spa or heating equipment, purification systems, automation devices and other equipment to make sure everything is functioning properly.

The start up specialist will also take you through a mini "pool school" to show you how to maintain your pool and spa, and how to make the most use of any additional features. It's important that any family member who will be involved in operating pool equipment to be present and have a chance to ask questions.

Once the start up is complete, you and your family can enjoy your new backyard oasis!

Of course, we know you'll have a lot more questions. This is just a handy overview to give you an idea of the steps involved. We will communicate with you every step of the way!
